Why Atlanta area patients may need dental fillings

It is important to Dr. Michaela McKenzie at Dazzling Smiles to educate her patients on the benefits of a beautiful, healthy smile. She encourages men and women to be proactive about improving their smiles by brushing and flossing after every meal. Additionally, she encourages her patients to book regular appointments at her practice for cleanings and examinations, typically every six months. When patients are regular dental care, they may be at risk for a myriad of conditions including periodontal disease and tooth decay.

Tooth decay is a common issue caused by poor oral health habits. When foods remain on the enamel of the teeth after eating, they can cause acids that eat away at the enamel of the teeth. They can also cause inflammation of the gums and increase the likelihood of periodontal disease. Dr. Michaela McKenzie encourages patients to avoid these issues by brushing and flossing after every meal to avoid problems such as cavities, which require dental fillings to correct.

The dental fillings used at Dazzling Smiles are fabricated from a composite resin material. Dr. Michaela McKenzie does use silver amalgam fillings because they are not biocompatible with the body. There have also been many studies over the years that show the mercury from these fillings can have a negative impact on overall health and wellness. Instead, our practice focuses on biocompatible materials such as composite resin, which can be used for filling and sealing a tooth with a cavity. It is also much more aesthetic within the smile than metal fillings used in the past.

Dr. Michaela McKenzie in Buckhead, Atlanta encourages patients to take good care of their smile in order to avoid issues such as periodontal disease and to enjoy the benefits of a beautiful, healthy appearance. If you want to start learning about the steps to proactive dental care, book an appointment at Dazzling Smiles today and consult with a dental professional regarding oral health care habits.
