Dental crowns and bridges play a big part in restoration of Smiles

Dr. Michaela McKenzie of Dazzling Smiles –located in Buckhead, is excited to offer her patients a range of treatments that can be used for general, cosmetic, and restorative dentistry. This includes beautiful all ceramic white – crowns, bridges and implants!

Dental crowns and bridges play important roles in restoring smiles, especially when teeth have been lost. For example, dental bridges may be the best way to replace missing teeth when dental implants or dentures are not appropriate or desired. Dental bridges work by placing a crown on either side of a missing tooth. A replacement tooth (called a pontic) is placed between the two crowns over the missing tooth space. This is all done by the technicians in the dental laboratory – using a custom made dental model of the patient’s teeth. Once all three teeth are connected together – the dental lab then fabricates a long three unit bridge. The bridge is then placed in the mouth. The bridge is cemented to the two adjacent teeth on either side of the missing tooth space. This helps to anchor the restoration. Bridges are made of porcelain, and custom-fabricated to match the existing teeth within the smile for seamless integration. Bridges can replace one or more teeth in a row quickly and easily.

Dental crowns can also be used for replacing missing teeth in conjunction with dental implants. The dental Implants we use are all white, ceramic zirconium posts that are placed into the mouth where the missing tooth is using oral surgery and are restored over the top with a crown. In other situations, they may be restored with bridges or dentures, depending on the needs of the patient. Dental crowns may also be placed over teeth that have been weakened or broken, such as those that have undergone or that have been damaged by trauma or decay. Some patients may even use dental crowns cosmetically to cover teeth that may not be appropriate for porcelain veneers. These versatile restorations can be used in many ways by Dr. Michaela McKenzie at Dazzling Smiles.

Dental crowns and bridges are used in many dental practices, and Dr. Michaela McKenzie ensures her patients that the materials used to fabricate these restorations in her practice are biocompatible with the body. They can improve oral health and wellness while maintaining the beauty and function of the smile.
