Atlanta History Center

Atlanta History Center is a history museum and proving ground located in the Buckhead district of Atlanta, Georgia. The Museum was founded in 1926 and presently consists of nine permanent, and several short-lived, exhibitions. Atlanta History Center’s campus is 33-acres and features historical gardens and homes located on the premises, consisting of Swan House, Smith Farm, and Wood Family Cabin.

The History Center’s research study arm, Kenan Research study Center, includes 3.5 million resources and a recreation of historian Franklin Garrett’s (19062000) office. Atlanta History Center holds one of the biggest collections of Civil War artifacts in the United States. Atlanta History Center runs three types of exhibitions: permanent, short-term, and traveling.

This exhibition will focus on the impact of the Olympic Games on Atlanta and its people. It will analyze what the games meant to different groups of people, from those associated with getting ready for the occasion to those whose lives are still affected by the video games over 20 years later on.

The other centerpiece in the Mobility exhibition is the Zero Mile Post, among the city’s most significant artifacts. Just recently moved to Atlanta History Center, the No Mile Post is the 1850s Western & Atlantic Railroad marker around which Atlanta grew. The in-depth exhibit accompanying the Texas and Absolutely no Mile Post translates the significant function railroads played in transforming Atlanta into the transport center and mall it is today.

Through original artifacts, including cannons, uniforms, swords, and other products, visitors can much better comprehend life throughout the Civil War. Gatheround: Stories of Atlanta is an interactive exhibit that checks out the different influential individuals and locations that makeup Atlanta, in addition to themes such as “Politics and Policy; Cultural Life; Household and Neighborhood; and Urban Growth.” This exhibit shares the stories of individuals of several backgrounds and viewpoints who assisted produce the Atlanta we understand today through artifacts, ephemera, multimedias, taping booths, immersive experiences, and dedicated spaces while setting the stage for Meet the Past museum theatre performances.

It consists of types varying from clothes and food to singing and storytelling and provides both the traditional and the contemporary. Native Lands: Indians and Georgia shares the history and stories of the state’s original residents starting with the Mississippian individuals and continuing with their descendants, the Creeks and the Cherokees.

Native Lands explores Indians’ current history and their continuing connections to Georgia through the voices of modern Creeks and Cherokees. Fair Play: The Bobby Jones Story explores the life of Georgia’s most famous golf enthusiast, Bobby Jones, and chronicles the early advancement of golf in the United States. For a profession that launched six decades before the birth of Tiger Woods, Bobby Jones is credited with promoting golf on a global stage.

Mandarin Shutze: A Chinese Export Life show tells the story of Philip Trammell Shutze, among Atlanta’s foremost designers, who was also known for his art collections. A Phillip Trammell Shutze created house, the Swan Home, is also on the premises of Atlanta History Center. Any Great Modification: The Centennial of the 19th Amendment which is open till Jan 31, 2021, honors the centennial of the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.
