Atlanta, GA area dentist explains mercury safe dentistry and CMRT testing

At Dazzling Smiles in Atlanta, GA, we believe in both the beauty of the smile and the health and wellness of the entire body. We focus on providing biological dentistry services that include mercury-safe dentistry and CMRT testing.

Mercury Safe Dentistry

Silver amalgam fillings have been used in dentistry for many years to address areas of decay. However, these metal fillings are made of approximately 50 percent mercury, which is a toxic substance. Instead of using silver amalgam fillings for cavities, Dr. Michaela McKenzie uses organic-based composite resin fillings which are not only more attractive but much safer. They also do not expand and contract in the same way silver amalgam fillings do, making them much more efficient at filling areas of decay. Mercury safe dentistry has become even more important as doctors are getting a better understanding of the reasons for many dental and medical concerns that point to mercury exposure through fillings and other dental work.

CMRT Testing

In order to determine if patients are safe to have certain chemicals and products put in their mouth or body, they may undergo a test called CMRT. CMRT stands for Clifford Materials Reactivity Testing. This is done to check for sensitivity to certain compounds and chemicals before using them in the body. Dr. Michaela McKenzie will perform CMRT testing when necessary to ensure safety and wellbeing before using a material that may or may not be biocompatible with one’s own body.

Dr. Michaela McKenzie is an Atlanta, GA area dentist who enjoys providing her patients with mercury-safe dentistry and can perform CMRT testing when appropriate. She will speak to patients about the benefits of undergoing testing to check the suitability for materials and chemicals often used in general and cosmetic dentistry. Finding out if these materials are safe to use is the best way to ensure overall health and wellness in her biocompatible dental practice.
